Hurricane Matthew – A PFWB Response

With much of our PFWB family affected by Hurricane Matthew, this is a difficult time for many. We are encouraged as we hear reports of pastors sending out prayers and words of encouragement to their church members, communities coming together, and people stepping up to help their neighbors any way they can.

In the aftermath of this crisis, let me encourage PFWB folks everywhere to do three things.

First, pray. Pray for those directly affected by the storm, pray for those who are working diligently to restore power, repair roads, and rescue those in distress. Pray that even in these difficult times the church continues to BE the church and the gospel continues to go forth in the form of good deeds done in the name of Christ. Just pray.

Second, serve. It’s been a blessing to hear of so many people grabbing their gear and going out to serve others in need. Of course, we are all appreciative for the service professionals who are working tirelessly, but I’m referring also to neighbors helping neighbors. Individuals setting aside their own interest and agendas to serve others. Sounds a lot like what Jesus would do, doesn’t it. Don’t do anything careless or foolish, but do look for opportunities to serve. Just serve.

Third, give. No doubt, a crisis like this is going to leave those affected in financial straights. Besides whatever donations you might feel led to make through the more popular agencies that abound, we want you to know that you can also send your donations to our PFWB Resource Center at PO Box 1568 Dunn, NC 28334 earmarked “Hurricane Relief” or “Matthew”. Every dollar given will go directly toward the need at hand. It makes no difference where you give or how you give. Just give.

Pray. Serve. Give.

Finally, a number of people have been calling the PFWB Resource Center but getting no answer. With power still out in the Dunn area and many of the roads in and out of Dunn in question, our office is closed and our directors and staff are working from home. If you need assistance please feel free to call me at 919.610.1287.
